Jamie Carragher says that Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard is the club’s “greatest player” of all time ahead of other Reds legends such as Kenny Dalglish and Graeme Souness.

The 32-year-old, who was honoured by the Football Writers Association this weekend, scored his 155th goal for Liverpool in their 5-0 victory overNorwich City at Anfield in the Premier League on Saturday.
Gerrard broke into the first-team under GĂ©rard Houllier’s stewardship in 1998, winning the Uefa Cup, FA Cup and League Cup before succeeding Sami Hyypia as captain in 2003.
Among his greatest achievement were scoring in the Champions League final in 2005, which inspired Liverpool to a memorable comeback against AC Milan, with the Merseyside outfit winning the trophy for a fifth time.
The midfielder made his 600th Liverpool appearance in November, coupled with earning his 100th England cap, and Carragher believes Gerrard is the best player to have ever donned the famous Red shirt.
“I think we are in the presence of the greatest player ever to play for Liverpool,” said Carragher.
“People will say I am biased because we are good friends and because of the trophies we have won together, but it is a fair accolade to give him.
“There are guys like Kenny Dalglish, Graeme Souness, Ian Rush, all world-class players, but the difference was they were in a world-class team – and Stevie has not played in a world-class team.”
He added: “Stevie’s one strength is he has no weakness, he can run, tackle pass and score goals.
“Football is a team game, but special players do special things at special times, and that is Steven Gerrard.”
