Newcastle striker Nile Ranger arrested on suspicion of rape (And don't forget his Twitter Rant against supporters)

NEWCASTLE United striker Nile Ranger has been arrested on suspicion of rape, sources said.

The 21-year-old Premier League footballer was held by Northumbria Police following an allegation made by a woman that she was attacked at a hotel in Jesmond, Newcastle between Wednesday and Thursday. London-born Ranger, who lives in Forest Hall, North Tyneside, was still being questioned today.

A police spokeswoman said: "On Thursday January 24 a woman reported to police that she had been raped overnight at a hotel in Jesmond. "A 21-year-old man has been arrested at an address in Forest Hall on suspicion of rape."

The day in focus

A generally pish day with the betting as Swansea beat Stoke convincingly, Vallecano were absolutely pathetic against Grenada, and Juventus beat Udinese 4-0. There were some convincing signs with a French Ligue treble, Lorient, Sochaux and Toulouse won. I feel there has to be some rules in place whereby £5 is the highest bet you can make. A least I can then get a starting feel to such systems etc.

The mighty Reds won 5-0 (a time where I haven't bet them). They absolutely destroyed a relegation candidate Norwich City. I'm awaiting a Malaga final game of the day result.

And finally Nile Ranger of Newcastle decided to slag off the fans after Newcastle lost 2-1 to Reading. Not the sharpest thing to do and probably more will be made of it.
